No room is perfectly square, and planks or tiles need to be cut at edges, around corners, and at doorways. Waste accounts for these cuts plus any mistakes. Straight installations need 5-10%, diagonal patterns need 15%, and rooms with many corners or obstructions may need more.

What’s the difference between hardwood and laminate calculation?

The area calculation is the same for any flooring type. The difference is in the waste factor (hardwood plank lengths vary more) and the box coverage (laminate comes in boxes, hardwood by the carton, carpet by the roll). The box calculator works for any material sold in fixed coverage units.

How do I measure an L-shaped room?
